  • Hi Georgeatia.

Thanks for getting in touch and welcome to our online community. My name is Sherrye and I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line.

I’m sorry to hear that the chemotherapy tablets that you’re taking or stage 4 ovarian cancer are making you feel sick.

At Macmillan Cancer Support we are separate from the NHS so have no access to any of the NHS systems or anyone’s medical records. So, I don’t know what chemotherapy tablets or anti-sickness medication you have been prescribed as part of your treatment plan.

I would suggest contacting your Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) or the cancer treatment centre at your local hospital to go over the administration instruction for the anti-sickness medication that you have.

If you’re not taking it regularly then try this first. If you find it’s not helping with your sickness then your medical team can prescribe something else for you as there are some anti-sickness medications that can be taken long-term.

In-between each cycle of treatment you should have a full review with either your consultant or CNS this is a good time to discuss how you’re feeling and any side effects you’re experiencing. It may be helpful to keep a symptoms diary to keep track of everything.

It’s understandable at a time like this to feel many different emotions, there is no right or wrong way to feel. You might find it helpful to reach out in the Ovarian Cancer Forum in the Macmillan Online Community as there will be others who understand what you’re going through and can offer support and share their own stories.

You are also very welcome to call the Macmillan Support Line to talk further with one of the nurses, we are always happy to take your call.

I hope this information helps. Please feel free to get back in touch if you want more information or support.

    Best wishes,

    Sherrye H,

    Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
