Hello,
wondering if you can help? I am 43 years old and found a lump gor which I was fast tracked for mammogram. Back in September I went for mamo and was told it was a cyst. However they picked up a focal cluster of micro calcification in the other breast and was told I needed a magnification mamo and possibly a biopsy. The micro calcification is 3mm and indeterminate. I had a Mano two years prior and it wasn’t on there then so hence the request to biopsy.
There was no info given to me so I looked online of what to expect.
On 24th sept I went in for magnification Mamo in which they decided to biopsy. I was taken to another room and was quite calm and just wanted to get it over with.
the local went in the needle went in and I passed out. I have never passed out in my life so was very strange. After 10 mins a biscuit and some water (I had had breakfast so not empty) we agreed to try again. Anyway this time I completely blacked out to the point the crash team were called however I came round once they arrived. I spent 5 hours in A&E corridor being monitored with no paracetamol for the breast pain even though I asked several times and obviously felt quite traumatised after the whole experience.
the biopsy wasn’t taken and I obviously felt quite upset.
After an appointment one doctor said to just do another mamo in a year! I wasn’t happy about that and the consultant did apologise as I had been pushed from pillar to post. They agreed that I needed a referral to cardiology to check my heart as I had problems in the past and once this was done they would re-biopsy at different angle mid to lateral so think this is lying down which would be a lot better for me. I just don’t think I can go through the process sitting up again.
I have now seen the cardiologist and all is good and was told it was a vasovagal synscope due to the pain and probably a drop in blood pressure. The cardiologist has recommended re-biopsy with sedation.
my question is is that possible? I have looked online and it says local or general Anastasia no mention of sedation??
I suppose I’m trying to find out if this is a thing?
many help or advice would be much appreciated.
the other option is to monitor with mammograms but now I know there’s something there obviously I just want it tested and gone if need be.
I am totally baffled why I passed out and this has never happened before. I think it’s a combination of the lack of prep as the biopsy was not how I had read up on, had no idea I would be upright with some electronic machine above me, a drop in blood pressure and just the fact I was trying not to move or breathe to heavily to avoid moment. Also after the local I did feel pain when the needle had gone in so far which again has contributed. As you can imagine I was not keen to repeat the experience but I’m just hoping the sedation is something that can happen and I can get the biopsy I need.
many Thanks
Super pink
