  • Hi harpo42

Thanks for getting in touch with us. My name is Tricia and I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurses on the Macmillan Support Line.

I hope your wife has recovered well from her other breast cancer treatment. Sorry to hear her weight has ballooned since taking the  Tamoxifen and that being overweight has affected her in such a way.

As a charity, we are not directly involved with your wife’s care and unable to comment on her specific circumstances regarding medications.

Although I am not aware that weight loss injections will interfere with tamoxifen, we always recommend that you speak to the Consultant or GP regarding this as they are the clinicians responsible for her medications and care.

The weight loss injections are now available on the NHS  but only if prescribed by a specialist weight management service as per NICE guidelines.  Therefore, she would need a referral from her GP if suitable for her to be considered for this treatment alongside the tamoxifen.

There are also other ways to try and manage her weight with different types of support available and it is important  to aim for  healthy eating during and after breast cancer treatment.

There is a free NHS  weight loss plan  that can be accessed online and other  resources such as how to achieve a healthier weight.

It might be worth your wife contacting her breast care nurse or a Macmillan Cancer information and Support Centre  to see if there are any local weight loss programmes, or a dietician that she can be referred to.

I hope this is helpful. Please don’t hesitate to get back in touch at any time if there are any other ways Macmillan Cancer Support can be of assistance .

    Sending best wishes,
