The area around my anus is becoming increasingly sore. I have just completed three weeks of chemo/radiotherapy at Guys Cancer Centre with two and a half weeks still to go. I'm not sure the skin around the anus will last that long. What to do? Thanks.

  • Hi Rup,

Thanks for getting in touch and welcome back I see that you are on other groups I hope you find this helpful. I’m Kate one of the Cancer Information Nurses Specialists here on the Macmillan Support Line.

I am sorry to hear that you are struggling with symptoms during your chemo/radiotherapy. We would advise you to contact your team at the hospital. Guys cancer centre has a treatment support number.

It is important that your team assess the condition of your skin as there are different creams and ointments depending on the degree of radiation dermatitis, they would recommend whilst continuing your treatment.

I hope this information is useful. Please don’t hesitate to get back in contact by email, webchat or phone, if you need further information or support.

    Best wishes
