Redness on breast

I was diagnosed with Triple Negative breast cancer in Dec 2018. I had surgery followed by chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Annual mammograms have been clear since then. Over the past week I have noticed a quite extensive redness on the underside of the same breast as the previous breast cancer. The breast is feeling a bit uncomfortable, possibly slightly fuller although I can't see any difference in size. The redness isn't itchy and the skin feels slightly dry but not rough. I am 65 years of age. I am a bit worried. Can you offer any advice please?

  • Hello Marita,

Thanks for contacting us. I’m Gail, one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line.

It is difficult to say what the cause of the redness in your breast is, but any new or persistent symptoms should be assessed by your GP. They can then decide what treatment or further investigations may be necessary.

Please give the surgery a call today and mention your past history of breast cancer, as well as your new symptoms, when speaking to the receptionist. It may take a while to get through but please persevere, as it’s important your symptoms are checked. If it is difficult to get through there may be an e-consult option on the surgery’s website, where you can send an email.

    Best wishes,

    Gail
