Hi there,

I am almost 6 years post treatment for Breast cancer, I was diagnosed at 33. I had fertility preservation and have eggs in storage. I got married 6 months ago and we are interested in finding out about starting the process to conceive.

Does anyone have any advice on who to contact to start this process. I am not intouch with my oncology team and only have yearly mammograms. I take 20mg of Tamoxifen daily.

  • Hi @ RaiGins,

Thanks for getting in touch with us and welcome to our online community.

My name is Helen and I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line.

It’s really great to hear you are almost 6 years post treatment for breast cancer and congratulations on your recent wedding.

I am pleased that you were able to store your eggs prior to starting cancer treatment and understand that you are now interested in finding out about starting the process to conceive.

Fertility treatments and cancer and  Planning pregnancy after breast cancer treatment  may be helpful resources for you and your husband.

At Macmillan we don’t have access to your NHS records, and therefore we don’t know what treatment you have had, or how long you have been recommended to stay on tamoxifen tablets. The best person to talk to about this is your GP who can refer you back to your Oncology Team.

You could also contact the fertility clinic that are storing your eggs. They will be able to advise on processes and pathways in your local area.

Our online community Life after cancer forum may also provide a useful resource for you.

I hope this information is helpful.  Please feel free to get back in touch if you want more information or support.

    Best wishes and good luck,

    Helen (Cancer Information Nurse Specialist)
