I have gastritis and gallstones and lost weight due to restricted diet.  Had ultrasound organs clear had endoscopy mild gastritis only.

Doctor now wants me to have CT scan.  I've just had that and waiting results and I am terrified.

Just need to shout out how terrified I am x x

  • Hi Linda,

My name is Gail and I’m one of the cancer information nurses on the Macmillan Support Line.

I’m sorry to hear about your health problems and can hear how anxious you’re feeling just now.

Thank you for reaching out. It’s important to know that you’re not alone. It can take a lot of courage to share how you are truly feeling and to reach out for support. It’s only natural to worry about all the possible scenarios when you’re waiting on the results of tests/investigations.

Understandably, only the results of your tests will offer clear guidance and reassurance regarding your symptoms, but it can help to share your concerns. I hope you’ve found this platform to be a safe space, where you can be yourself, share how you’re feeling and where you feel supported.

Sometimes we can feel powerless when we’re worried about our health and so seeking information and support can help us gain a better understanding, allowing us to feel more in control.

Gallstones and Gastritis can impact each person differently. Although, I’m not aware of all your personal symptoms, these typically cause various severities of ill health.

It’s natural to think there must be something more if the doctors are arranging more tests, but the CT scan may have been arranged because the doctors want to have a better insight into the gallstones.

Further tests such as a CT are sometimes required to ascertain the best treatment plan.

It’s important to investigate each person’s symptoms, especially if they’ve experienced weight loss but you also mentioned you are on a restricted diet.

I wonder if having a chat with your GP might help. They may feel reassured by your previous tests and can clarify if they arranged a CT scan to help determine a treatment plan for the gallstones.

I hope this information helps and you get further clarity soon. I realise that this is a lot of information to take in. If it would help to talk through things, please don’t hesitate to give us a call on the support line.
