Hi. I have been recently diagnosed by the Breast Cancer as 2nd Stage. I am just waiting for the surgery of mastectomy and reconstruction.

In the mean time, I am just feeling pain and numbness in  my arm and hand. Just wondering, can it be related to my breast cancer?

  • Hi Muhaimin.

Thanks for getting in touch and welcome to our online community. My name is Sherrye and I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line.

I can see you’ve joined one of the breast cancer forums, I hope you are finding it a supportive place.

I’m sorry to hear that you’ve been diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer and are awaiting surgery. This must be a very emotional time for you, please know that there is no right or wrong way to feel at this time and we at Macmillan are always happy to talk things through with you.

At Macmillan Cancer Support with any new, changing, or worsening symptoms we’d always recommend reporting this to your medical team or GP for assessment. The pain and numbness you’re experiencing could be related to the cancer but as you’re experiencing it right down to your hand I’m sure your medical team will want to know about this right away, and it’s always best to be on the safe side.

Muhaimin if you have or start having any chest pain then please call 999 right away.

If you don’t have a direct contact number for the breast cancer nurse specialist you can call the main hospital number and ask to be put through.

I hope this information helps. Please feel free to get back in touch if you want more information or support.

    Best wishes,

    Sherrye H,

    Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
