Hi

I was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer in 2021, had a lumpectomy, biopsy of my lymph node and 5 days of radiotherapy, in January this year after a mammogram I was recalled as it looked like a thickening, had a 3D mammogram and a ultrasound and was given the all clear.

My breast has been aching and i get twinges near to the biopsy site, it feels like a drawing feeling, I can't feel any lumps, it's been happening for months but more frequently now, not sure if to worry or not, also I have the chek2 gene, do you think I should speak to some one.

Many thanks

  • Hi Twink56.

Thanks for getting in touch and welcome to our online community. My name is Sherrye and I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line.

I’m sorry to hear that you were diagnosed with breast cancer in 2021 and then had a recall following a mammogram in January of this year. I’m very glad to learn that you have been given the all clear now.

At Macmillan Cancer Support with any new, changing, or worsening symptoms we’d always recommend reporting this to your medical team or GP for assessment.

It can be common for some people following breast cancer and breast cancer treatments to experience pain and changes in sensation on the treated side. These changes can be caused nerve damage from the surgery or the radiotherapy, and sometimes don’t become noticeable till after the treatment has ended, this is known as late effects of treatment.

It would be a good idea to contact your breast team or GP and discuss what you’re experiencing especially as it’s happening more frequently, they will know your situation best and can offer more personalised advice on how to manage this going forward.

You may also find it helpful and supportive to reach out in the Breast Cancer Forum, there may be others in who have experienced something similar and can share their stories and managing tips with you.

I hope this information helps. Please feel free to get back in touch if you want more information or support.

    Best wishes,

    Sherrye H,

    Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
