Hello and I’m just really worried this last week as I was diagnosed 18 month ago and was having brachytherapy in jan then cancelled re c diff id caught in a hospital in December, then two more dates were same , got all clear and then had my June one cancelled as I walked into the hospital brachytherapy room as a nurse said don’t get into a gown as you have a chest infection! And won’t put me to sleep re anaesthetic etc , then told I’d have to have this other brachytherapy procedure with epidural but it would then need radiotherapy for 20 days !!the consultant knows I have Crohn’s and it was in a letter to him from Sheffield hospital that they wouldn’t risk it due to it could cause perforation, a stoma for life and possibly an opp on my resection again ! Now he says I’ll only be able to have HT for the future, I have bronchitisis which with drugs I can get no cough for a few weeks, but still can’t have any brachytherapy

Thank you for getting in touch with us, and welcome to our online community. My name is Annerose I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurses here at the Macmillan Cancer Support line.

I am sorry to hear you having difficulties getting treatment due to other health problems. It sounds like you’ve got lots going on and it’s frustrating to hear you’re struggling to get support.

Prostate cancer can be treated in different ways, and it is important that you have a discussion about your concerns about the treatment, and understand your teams decision.

Have you had a chance to discuss this with your original consultant? It sounds like you have been treated in two different hospitals and it might be a good idea to contact your prostate cancer team to ask for further information about the treatment, the options and possibilities for moving forward.

Have a look at our tips for talking with the healthcare team and use this to best prepare you for this consultation.

I hope this has been helpful, but please don’t hesitate to get back in touch if you need any further information or support.

    Best wishes and take care,

    Annerose (Cancer Information Nurse Specialist)
