hello, I’m in good health after having a lumpectomy in July. Due to start 5 days of radiotherapy, would very much like to go on holiday and relax for a few days afterwards. Would it be ok to fly 2 days after finishing treatment?

  • Hi 55mumof2,

Thanks for getting on touch and welcome to the online community. I hope you are finding it supportive.

My name is Fiona and I’m one of the cancer information nurses.

It’s good to read that you have recovered well after having a lumpectomy.

It’s understandable that you want to get away and relax after your radiotherapy. However, depending on your individual treatment, you may be advised to wait for a period of time to recover. You should speak to your specialist or breast care nurse about what they recommend for you.

It can also sometimes be difficult for people to get travel insurance. Travel Insurance gives protection if something goes wrong when you are away. You may find our information on travel insurance helpful. You could contact our financial guides on the Macmillan Support Line for further information and support about getting insurance as well.

We also have an online community group about travel insurance which sometimes people find useful.

You may find it helpful to look at our travel and cancer booklet.

I hope this information helps. Please feel free to get back in touch if you want more information or support.

    Best wishes,

    Fiona P,

    Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
