My husband had had flot chemo then surgery followed by another 4 sessions of flot , we haven't received his histology report but the letter from cancer nurse says diagnosis T4N1M0 it now says its T3NOM0 as we were told all was removed we don't understand why it's still T3 .

Hopefully we can get some answers.

Many thanks

  • Good afternoon Yvonne,

Thank you for getting in touch and welcome to our online community, I hope you find it supportive. My name is Helen and I am one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line.

I’m sorry to read your husband was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer and has been through chemotherapy and surgery for this. I hope his recovery following treatment is going well.

As we are unable to access individual NHS letters or reports regarding results through this platform, the best people to ask questions about your husbands staging of cancer would be his consultant or clinical nurse specialist.

Our guide on questions to ask your healthcare team may be helpful to read prior to contacting them or to help with preparing for a post treatment follow up appointment he may have.

If you haven’t already been in touch with us, you may find it helpful to talk things through. This could be an opportunity for you to share how you’re feeling,  to ask more questions and discuss other ways we may be able to support you. It can also help us gain a better understanding of your current concerns and give you the best guidance.

I hope this information is helpful but if you have any more questions please don’t hesitate to get back in touch.

    Best wishes,

    Helen, Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
