My wife had a Colonoscopy over two weeks ago where a large flat ulcerative tumour was found, a further CT scan was arranged a couple of days later. We’ve not yet heard anything further from the specialist nurse who saw my wife after the Colonoscopy to explain what had been found. When can we expect to hear something as you can imagine the wait is agonising

  • Hi Patrada,

Thank you for contacting Macmillan Cancer Support. My name is David, one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line.

Sorry to hear about your wife’s current health.

Waiting for results of tests and investigations can be a worrying time and people often feel anxious while their waiting to find out more.

It is also natural to have feelings of uncertainty at this point.

Sometimes the hospital will give you a contact number of someone in your team like a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) who will be happy to answer any questions you have.

It can take a few days to a few weeks for results to be ready. This information is then discussed at a Multidisciplinary or MDT meeting.

Following the MDT meeting your wife will be contacted to discuss the outcome and plan for treatment required.

At this point it may be a good idea to have some questions prepared for the hospital team.

We have further information on possible questions to ask your healthcare team, and explore your treatment options.

It is important to discuss all your treatment options so you can give informed consent when making treatment decisions .

If you have not heard by the end of this week, it may be an idea to contact the hospital directly for an update.

If there is anything else we can help you with please feel free to get back in touch.

    Best wishes

    David, Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
