I've just been discharged from hospital (11/9/24) after 8 days. I've had a radical hysterectomy with lymph nodes removed. Today has been my 1st full day at home and I've struggled with my emotions. Feeling happy one minute, angry the next, bouts of crying I've little things that have annoyed me. Is this something I need to worry about, am I going to feel like this from now on?

  • Dear

Thank you for getting in touch with us at Macmillan Cancer Support. My name is Debra and I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line.

I’m sorry to hear that you’re struggling with your emotions but want to reassure you that this is quite common following surgery. This can be partly due to the general anaesthetic but may also be a reaction to your diagnosis or the type of operation you’ve had. At Macmillan we don’t have any access to your medical records so I can only offer general advice based on the information you’ve given me. However, it may be helpful for you to talk to one of us, this way we can better understand your situation and concerns and provide you with whatever support, information or guidance would be most helpful for you.

Whatever you decide, if your symptoms persist, we would recommend speaking to your GP.

    Best wishes

    Debra
