I have experienced every side effect with the treatment that has been tried. Currently they have tried PAZOPANIB full dose then half dose. Constant diarrhoea and joint pain. Is there anything else to try0. The consultant said I am sensitive to the drugs and mentioned “quality not quantity “ when I asked her the question of drugs that won’t give me horrendous side effects.

  • Dear

Thanks for getting in touch with the Macmillan support line. I’m Linda, one of the nurses from our support line.

It sounds as if you have been going through quite a time with the side effects you have mentioned, despite having the dose altered.

Though there are other treatments available for kidney cancer we would encourage to go back and speak with your specialist. This is because we have no access to your medical history and are not in the position to recommend specific treatments.

Some of these treatments can have a similar sides effect to what you are already experiencing, and this may be why your consultant has not made further changes. It is worth confirming this with them.

If after this you still have doubts or concerns it may be worth asking about a second opinion. Though there is no legal obligations to arrange this many clinical teams will be happy to arrange this on your behalf.

    Take care and best wishes,

    Linda (Cancer Information Nurse Specialist)
