  • Hi Frightened lady,

Thanks for getting in touch and welcome to the online community. I hope you’re finding it supportive.

My name is Fiona and I’m one of the Macmillan cancer information nurses.

I’m sorry to read about your diagnosis of invasive lobular breast cancer. Being diagnosed with cancer can cause many different emotions. But there is help available.

Some breast cancers can be encouraged to grow by the hormone oestrogen. Letrozole is a type of hormone therapy that is used to treat breast cancer by reducing the amount of oestrogen made in the body and so it stops the effect of oestrogen on the breast cancer cells. Hormone therapy can be given if surgery is delayed or is not an option.

Your specialist will be able to see what effect the letrozole is having when you have the scan after taking letrozole for 16 weeks.

Often talking to others going through a similar experience can be helpful to do. There is nothing quite like the support that you can get from others who know what it’s like. We have a great online group that you can join.

I hope this information helps. Please feel free to get back in touch if you want more information or support.

    Best wishes,

    Fiona P,

    Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
