Dear Janet67
My name is Joanne, and I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists. I can see that you have joined the skin cancer forum and I hope that you are finding the online community helpful and supportive.
You ask how long you may need to wait to see a plastic surgeon. This varies between hospitals; however, My Planned Care is an NHS website where you can check waiting times for the speciality and hospital you have been referred to. This will be an estimate, if you are referred for an urgent appointment it may be sooner than the specified wait time.
It may also be useful to be aware of the cancer treatment target times and your cancer care rights. Being diagnosed with cancer and waiting for treatment can be an anxious and stressful time so it is important to look after yourself emotionally as well as physically.
I hope you have found this information helpful. Sometimes it can help to speak to one of our nurses as we can explain out answers in more detail and you have the opportunity to ask questions. To speak to the Macmillan Support Line team of experts. Phone free on 0808 808 0000 (7 days a week, 8am-8pm).
Best wishes,
Joanne F
