Is a new condition called intertrigo likely to be connected to low grade Non Hodgkin Lymphoma?

I am watch and wait re long standing Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, but also have an attacking immune system which caused Hashimoto’s disease and Secondary Sjögren’s syndrome.    My review appointment a couple of months ago with a phone call from haematology nurse was cancelled and has not been reestablished and I do not know if I should chase them or not.

  • Dear DelightfulD

Thank you for reaching out to us here at Macmillan Cancer Support.  My name is Rae and I am a Cancer Information Nurse Specialist.

Intertrigo is an infection caused by the yeast condition ‘candida albicans’.  Intertrigo and low-grade Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma are generally not directly connected.  However, as you may have a compromised immune system, it may well be making you more susceptible to infections and skin conditions such as intertrigo.

If you have new conditions and or symptoms it is always worthwhile checking in with your haematology team and/or GP to ensure that they are monitoring you and you are receiving the correct treatment.  Please do give them a call and speak to your clinical nurse specialist explaining the situation.

You are also welcome to speak to our nurses for further support needs, but as we do not have your medical notes we can only input generally into this situation.

    Best wishes
