I have tongue cancer and the pain is becoming unbearable, being treated with oromorph. Does the increase in pain mean my cancer is progressing?

  • Dear Gardener66

My name is Rae and I am a Cancer Information Nurse Specialist here at Macmillan Cancer Support.

It is important when symptoms are becoming worse that you seek help today.  If you are experiencing unbearable pain is it going to be affecting your ability to eat and drink and therefore you need to be assessed as soon as possible.  This can be by contacting your cancer team, GP or 111.

Pain with a cancer diagnosis can happen for a number of reasons.  We do not have enough information about your diagnosis and if you are receiving treatment to know why your pain is occurring.  You should be able to speak to your clinical nurse specialist who will be able to let you know more information.

Please do contact our nurses after you have spoken to your team and we can speak about any further support needs that you have.

    Best wishes
