  • Hi Cyprusgirl,

My name is Keith and I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialist

we hope your finding the support and information on the online  community  helpful.

Everyone is affected differently both physically and emotionally by any diagnosis.

This sounds like a really difficult time for you now. We can only imagine what you are going through right now. There is no rule book in how to manage a situation like this. We are glad you have the support from your GP and have been advised by your GP to get in touch with us.

Hopefully this is the first step in getting the help and support you need right now.

It’s OK not being OK right now. Taking things at your pace to slowly rebuild your life is all you can do right now. Try to experiment with different ways of coping. One size never fits all. Try to set achievable goals.

Let’s look at potential things we can offer and what you can experiment with to see what the best possible support /strategies you can use to get through how you are feeling and dealing with right now.

Macmillan can offer many different ways to support you .

Looking at this podcast initially may be helpful and show that you aren’t the first to feel this way. It may also give you a better understanding of how you are feeling right now.

Getting help with how you are feeling is so important. Support can be from close family, loved ones and friends and may be all you need right now.

However, in some situations you may want to talk to someone outside this circle such as health care professionals (specialist nurse) or seek professional counselling.

We have a partnership with BUPA offering up to 4 free remotely delivered counselling sessions. This is for people struggling emotionally because they are living with cancer. People can access support remotely within days if they qualify to use the service. Looking at this link will explain this in more detail and how to request an initial assessment to see if this may be the right thing for you.

Another option would be to give us a call and speak to someone over the phone. We are used to dealing with situations like this and after a chat we may sign post you to different areas for further support. Or you could seek further peer support/information from our breast cancer forum

Breast Cancer Now, also offers peer support (Someone Like Me),  looking at this information will give further information about this.

We also have what we call in your area that list support groups and drop in centres near you that may be worth looking at also.

On this platform it can be difficult to have a two-way conversation and to fully understand what you are going through.

If you’d like further explanation or have any other questions, please feel free to recontact us. By giving us a give us a call or contact us via our web chat platform.

    take care.

    Keith, Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
