Could you please advise on whether you can have nalirifox after having other types of chemo for pancreatic cancer. This could be either NHS or private. Thank you

  • Dear CBMD,

Thanks for getting in touch and a warm welcome to the Online Community. I’m Helen, one of the Cancer Information Nurses here on the Macmillan Support Line. I see you have already joined some of our forums and I hope you’ll find it a supportive environment.

Thank you for your question about NALIRIFOX.

This has now been approved for use in the USA by the by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and by the European Medicines Agency EMA) as a first line drug for pancreatic cancer that has spread..

However, the EMA’s authorisation is only valid in countries belonging to the European Union. Of which the UK is no longer a member. It does not appear to be approved at present for use in the UK.

As NALIRIFOX has only been licensed as a first line treatment, it is unlikely that it would be available even privately or abroad if other drug regimes have already been given.

We would encourage you to discuss the matter with the consultant in charge of treatment for further guidance on this matter.

I hope this information helps. Please feel free to get back in touch if you want more information or support.

    With best wishes

    Helen
