Hi Tedlovessue
Thanks for getting in touch with Macmillan Cancer Support. I’m Linda, one of the nurses from our support line.
Waiting to hear back from the hospital can be an unsettling time, especially when you have been asked to have further tests carried out.
Though we can’t say for sure, there may be a suspicion that the polyp is cancerous, and as a precaution the hospital team want you to have a CT scan whilst waiting for biopsy results.
It is common to arrange further tests during this time. This means, if required, the multidisciplinary team (MDT) will have the information they need to offer you a diagnosis.
It is worth keeping in mind that at this point results can still be benign (non-cancerous).
I’m not sure if you have been given the details for a clinical nurse specialist at the hospital, sometimes called a colorectal nurse specialist. If you have, they are there to help you with information and support. If you have any questions whilst you are waiting to be seen it can be good to give them a call.
Though we can’t offer specific guidance we can offer general guidance and support at this time if you’d like to get back in touch.
I hope you don’t have too long to wait to hear back.
Take care.
Linda, Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
