Hi Scaredmamma,
Thanks for getting in touch. My name is Jo and I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurses on the Macmillan Support Line.
I can appreciate your enquiry and concern for your small pug dog following a PET scan. As you are already aware, within the published guidelines it is advised to avoid close contact with pregnant people, babies, and young children for 24 hours after the scan. However, there are currently no published guidelines regarding contact with pets.
This is a question that has been asked previously on the animals are family too forum, and you can read the response here. You might also like to read this advice on PET scans and pet safety written by a vet.
If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to get back in touch. You can speak with the Macmillan Support Line on 0808 808 0000 (7 days a week, 8am-8pm) or email us.
I hope this information is helpful.
Best wishes,
Jo
