Liver cancer

Hi  I have had bowel cancer two years ago and had been doing well since I had my stoma reversal and all was going well.  I went up 2 weeks ago for my check up and had my scan and it has shown up the characteristics of a non benign growth on my liver.  The consultant has told me it could so easily have been missed or not checked but due to my history of having cancer recently they decided to look at it further.  I am totally beside myself with worry as I know nothing about liver cancer and know nobody who has had it and had a good outcome.  I have googled it on the internet and have since been sick with worry.  Can anyone reassure me please????

  • Hello Annie B,

Thanks for getting in touch with us. My name is Linda and I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line.

I hope you are finding the bowel cancer forum group helpful.

It’s natural to be feeling sick and worried at this uncertain time. If you feel able, you may wish to talk with one of our nurses directly on the phone. Some people find it easier to talk about how they feel and ask questions as they go along.

It’s good to read that they are looking into this further. Unfortunately, the best way to find out what this liver growth is, is to have further tests.

If you still wish to read more information about liver cancer please use our website or Cancer research UK. It’s not always helpful to read too much.

Your consultant will be able to clarify your results and what that means for you going forward.

I hope this helps. Please get back in touch if you have any other questions.

    Best wishes

Linda J.  Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
