I had a total hysterectomy for ovarian cancer and was told I need 6 sessions of chemo (pc) then get a ct scan at the end. now I've to get the scan after 3rd session. I've worked myself into  a state of anxiety re this.  why a scan half way through my chemo?

  • Dear HFD

Thank you for contacting us here at Macmillan Cancer Support.  My name is Rae and I a cancer information nurse specialists here on the Support Line.

We see that you are a member of some of our forums and have already received some peer replies to your question.  We hope that you are finding it a supportive environment.

We hope that you are recovering well from your total hysterectomy for ovarian cancer.

CT scans are used to see how well the treated is working, and it is routine that you may have a scan after cycle 3 or cycle 6 of chemotherapy.

It is normal to have differing emotions when you have received a cancer diagnosis and going through treatment.  Anxiety can be one of those emotions, especially around scans and waiting for results.  It is important to seek help for your emotions if you feel that they are affecting how you cope with daily life.  We do have a partnership with Big Health to provide free access to their apps for support.  Daylight is the one which helps with anxiety.  We also have counselling available.

If you would like to discuss any of the above with our nurses, please do contact us.  We are happy to talk anything over with you.

    Best wishes

    Rae, Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
