My husband had his first round of palliative chemo on Thursday,  he has been having hallucinations for the last two nights, could these be a side effect of the chemo

  • Dear Tinamelv,

Thanks for getting in touch. My name is Kerry and I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line.

I’m sorry to hear that your husband has been experiencing hallucinations for the last 2 days.

Hallucinations aren’t a common side effect of treatment usually, but he certainly needs further assessment as to the cause.

With any new, changing, or worsening symptoms it is important to get further support with this as soon as possible.

As your husband had chemotherapy last week, I would advise that you contact the 24hr chemotherapy triage line at his hospital straightaway.

They may want to assess him further to rule out any infections, reactions to any of the medications or any other possible causes.

The contact number may be on an alert card they have given him or any paperwork he has.

If you don’t have a contact number for the 24hr assessment line or the chemotherapy unit, you need to call 111 as he needs further assessment today.

I hope this information is useful. Please don’t hesitate to get back in contact by emailwebchat or phone, if you need further information or support.

The Macmillan Support Line offers practical, clinical, financial and emotional support. You can call us free from landlines and from most mobile phone networks on 0808 808 00 00, 7 days a week, 8am – 8pm.

    Best wishes,

    Kerry
