Tingling sensations in feet

I wonder if colorectal/anal cancer could cause tingling sensations in feet. Also reduced sensation in the genitals. This has been going on since approximately 2016.

  • Hi Trillium58,

Thanks for getting in touch and welcome to the online community. My name is Fiona and I’m one of the Macmillan cancer information nurses.

I see from your profile that you have joined the bowel cancer forum. I hope that you’re finding it supportive.

I’m sorry to read that you have been having issues since 2016.

You have mentioned that you are experiencing tingling sensations in your feet. This may be a symptom of peripheral neuropathy. Peripheral neuropathy can be caused by some of the anti-cancer drugs.

You also mention that you have reduced sensation in your genitals. If you have had surgery near your rectum, it can affect the pelvic nerves which can lead to altered sensation.

On the Support Line we are separate from the NHS and do not have access to medical notes or NHS systems. You have not said what treatment you have had for your colorectal/anal cancer. It would be a good idea to talk to your GP or nurse specialist, if you still have one, to discuss the issues you are having so that they can assess you and look at what options there are to help you with these issues.

I hope this information helps. Please feel free to get back in touch if you want more information or support.

    Best wishes,

    Fiona P,

    Cancer Information Nurse Specialist

  • I wasn’t on any cancer drugs in 2016 and didn’t know that I had a tumour growing in my rectum. For years I have felt that something was wrong but try explaining that to a GP. I hadn’t had any surgery in 2016 so in can’t be the reason for the change in genital sensation. What seems strange to me is how the change down below happened. One day is wasn’t there then overnight it happened. Approximately a year later I started experiencing cold sensation in my right foot that started in the digits and lower arch of foot. It then spread to the left but to lesser extent. Gradually over the years it has changed to a tingling with the odd hot patch. Although it doesn’t cause any difficulty in walking I find it troubling. I am not diabetic and have been attending a gym regularly up to the latest surgery. I think the peripheral neuropathy was caused by a tumour pressing on nerves and my bladder. I have been experiencing stop start peeing I estimate since the late 2000s but last September was diagnosed with BPE despite having numerous DRE’s over the years. My latest concern is that slow growing cancer has spread to my bladder and or prostrate and will have to have my bladder and prostrate removed. I have decided not to have this if it turns out to be that.
