Hi

I was diagnosed with new primary hormonal breast cancer on the breast I had a mastectomy and diep flap reconstruction. I'm devasted and feel even worse than 11 yrs ago. Had a full body PET scan today.  My whole body hurts and so does the left breast.

I'm recovering from a hernia operation so feeling very low. I miss going the sauna and steam room. I don't know what to do . Can i still go to thecsteam room and sauna whilst i wait for scan results and treatment plan.

  • Hi Pink68,

Thanks for getting in touch and welcome to our online community.

My name is Carole and I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line

I’m sorry to read that you’re feeling very low.

It’s not unusual to experience a range of emotions while waiting on test results or for a treatment plan.

When emotions are building up, focussing on wellbeing can help.

I can appreciate you would like to know whether you can go to the sauna and steam room.

Sometimes saunas or steam rooms are not recommended after certain procedures or operations.

Your hospital teams can give you advice specific to you, as they have access to your medical notes.

We’d recommend that you get in touch with both the breast and general surgical teams for advice.

You should also make them aware that you are in pain if you haven’t already. And if you haven’t told them or your GP/111 about how you are feeling, we’d recommend that you do this too.

    I hope this is helpful.

Please don’t hesitate to get back in touch here, or on the Support Line if you have further questions, or even if you just want to talk.

    Sending my best wishes,

    Carole
