  • Hi Teduk

Thank you for getting in touch. My name is Fiona and I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists here on the Macmillan Support Line. I see that you’ve joined the Prostate Cancer Forum, I hope that you are finding it useful and supportive.

I’m sorry to read that you have been diagnosed with prostate cancer. You are probably aware that a Gleason score of 6 (3 + 3) shows that you have a very slow growing cancer, hence being placed on watch and wait.

Your PSA test is one way of monitoring you but your result will be different to someone else’s depending on many factors, so the team will be able to monitor what is baseline for you. Whilst we would expect your team to be in touch with you if it rises, some people prefer to ask their GP surgery for their results so they can track them themselves. If you are in England, you would be able to access your results via the GP App.

Being diagnosed with cancer and undergoing treatments can be a time of different emotions. Please do reach out for further support if you feel that this would be of help to you during this time.

I hope this information is helpful. If you have any further questions, please get in touch again. You can also speak with the Macmillan Support Line team of experts. Phone free on 0808 808 0000 (7 days a week, 8am-8pm) or send us an email or contact us through Webchat
