So yesterday I was told that according to a CT scan on my chest that I have possible mets, lots of them. They did a Tumour Panel marker test which came back fine. I’m really confused by this. Does this give me hope?

  • Dear

Thanks for getting in touch. I’m Linda, one of the Cancer Information Nurses from our support line.

Waiting for a definite answer can be an unsettling time, so it’s only natural to try and make sense of what you know so far.

Because we have no access to any of your clinical information it would be difficult for us to say what this might mean for you. Only someone who knows your situation and can look at your medical records would be able to say with any certainty if there are mets present.

As you are really confused by what you have been told it may be best to contact your specialist team to ask for further information. If you have a clinical nurse specialist it is worth contacting them for guidance. In the absence of a nurse, it might help to call your consultant’s secretary and ask to speak with someone about your results for clarity. If you don’t have contact details for them it can help to call the main hospital number and ask to be put through to them by letting the switchboard operator know who you consultant is.

In the meantime Patient Info offer this guidance to help ease worry whilst waiting.

I hope you don’t have too long to find out for sure, and if we can help further please do stay in touch.

    Take care.

    Linda, Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
