Prostap Injections

I have just had a third monthly Prostap Injection. After the first one I suffered terribly from hot flushes and severe headaches. It was quite a bit less with the second and I am hoping no aftereffects from the third.

The nurse who gave the injection said she will see if the doctor wants to change to 28 day injection for the next one if symptoms do not reoccur.

Are the symptoms I have experienced normal? Are they likely to reoccur?

    Welcome to the online community.

I was sorry to read that you have experienced some difficult effects from your leuprorelin (otherwise called Prostrap). I certainly hope that your third dose is easier going for you.

The hot flushes and headaches you describe are very common and are due to the hormone treatment lowering your testosterone.

It’s hard to say if your symptoms will reoccur, and whether that is more likely if you switch to three-monthly injections. Each gentleman’s experience is different, but I can understand why you might feel cautious about any change to the frequency.

You might be interested in a conversation between patients considering making the change here. You may also find joining one of these workshops beneficial as well.

I hope this information is useful. Please don’t hesitate to get back in contact by email, webchat or phone, if you need further information or support.
