How long does it take to get family members tested. Told I had lynch 3 weeks ago

  • Dear Sky4

Thank you for contacting us here at Macmillan Cancer Support.  My name is Rae and I am a Cancer Information Nurse Specialist.

Lynch syndrome is a condition that can run in families.  It can also increase the risk of developing some cancers.

Predictive genetic testing can be used to test other members of the family.  This form of genetic testing is offered to find out if any family members have inherited the genetic change, or genetic alteration, to see if lynch syndrome runs in your family.

This booklet has further information about lynch syndrome, cancer risks, managing cancer risks and sharing information with your family.  They also have a section on what happens when someone is referred for genetic testing, but each hospital will have their own policies and timings, so unfortunately, we are not able to tell you how long it takes to get family members tested.

Please do call our Support Line if you have further information needs or would like to chat over the above information.

    Best wishes

    Rae, Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
