I have yesterday attended the breast clinic  at Kings College (Demmark Hill) following a recall mammogram.   I’m currently awaiting the result of a biopsy but the consultant said he believed it is likely that this is cancer and that it appears to be in situ.  I have no symptoms that I have noticed.  No lump etc.    I’m absolutely petrified.  I’m at work today but not able to concentrate very well.  I don’t think I’m coping and  don’t know where to start making sense of all this.

thank you for reading.

  • Hi Elleinad,

Thanks for getting in touch and welcome to the online community. My name is Fiona and I’m one of the Macmillan cancer information nurses.

We’re sorry to read that you are waiting for biopsy results and have been told that it is likely to be breast cancer in situ. This is commonly referred to as DCIS. DCIS is the earliest form of breast cancer. It needs to be treated but is not life-threatening.

It is important to get the biopsy results to get a diagnosis and following that your treatment plan.

We know that waiting for results is a time of anxiety, and it’s important for your wellbeing to look at what you can do to manage that anxiety. This information may help you with this.

It may help you to call our Support Line and talk to one of our nurses about what is happening and how you are feeling. You can call us on 0808 808 0000 and we are here every day from 8am to 8pm.

I hope this information helps. Please feel free to get back in touch if you want more information or support.

    Best wishes,

    Fiona P,

    Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
