I recently had an ultrasound and multiple lesions were found on my liver. My doctor told me they were metastasized cancer….how would she know this? I went for a CT scan yesterday to find the primary malignancy.

  • Hi Regals

Thank you for getting in touch, and welcome to the online community. My name is Anne-Marie and I am one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line.

I’m sorry to hear that you have been given this recent diagnosis and are still waiting to hear about a potential primary malignancy. This sounds like a very difficult time for you and it’s not unusual to experience many different emotions.

Ultrasound scans are used for diagnosing cancer, often in conjunction with other tests like the CT scan you had yesterday, blood tests and biopsy of primary cancers.

This information discusses secondary liver cancer, including symptoms, diagnosis and possible treatments.

Before you go back for any further consultations, it could be helpful to prepare some questions about your diagnosis and possible treatments. Our Questions to ask your healthcare team, has a list of possible questions that could be useful to you. We would also recommend, if possible, taking someone else to your appointment with you.

    Best wishes

    Anne-Marie
