Beta 2 Microglobulin

I'm considering having a  Beta 2 Microglobulin blood test done privately to try and help me understand how my CLL will behave in the future.

I have CLL and I am on W&W for the last year. Diagnosed in June of 2023.

Is it worth having this test done. Are there others I could have done or is it not worth it for me at this stage of my CLL journey.

Thank you.

My name is Alison and I am one of the Cancer Information Nurses with Macmillan Cancer support. Thank you for getting in touch with us and I hope you find the online community a helpful and supportive environment.

I am sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with CLL and that you are on a Watch and Wait which is active monitoring and you should have regular check-ups to monitor your CLL.

Many people feel confused and worried when they’re told they will just be monitored. It’s hard to understand and explain to others how you can have cancer but not need treatment. It can also cause anxiety as your next check-up comes nearer and you wait for test results.

It would be best to speak to your consultant or even your cancer nurse specialist at the hospital you are attending to talk through the Beta-2 Microglobulin Tumour Marker blood test.

Within Blood Cancer UK there is the Online Community Forum which is a space to talk about any experiences and challenges whilst on the watch and wait path.

    Best wishes
