Hello. Is it ok to take Turmeric vitamins? I asked my GP and he basically wouldn't commit to an answer. My joints are very sore, I think due to 8 years of tamoxifen and and read turmeric helps joints.

Hi Steffijojo
Thanks for getting in touch. My name is Lindsey and I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line.
I’m sorry to hear you have sore joints. It sounds uncomfortable and it is understandable that you are looking for something that could help.
Tumeric has many health benefits including relieving joint pain. It is generally considered to be safe in recommended amounts. It can cause mild side effects when used in large amounts.
Unfortunately we are unable to give recommendations about medication and supplements and would always advise that you checked with your health care team. If you still have contact with your breast care team speak to them about your joint pains and your thoughts about taking Tumeric. Your GP may also be able to help with the problems you have with your joints.
One of the recognised side effects of Tamoxifen is joint pain. Our web page explains ways you can take care of your joints while you are on Tamoxifen and other hormone therapies for breast cancer. This includes taking regular exercise and considering therapies like acupuncture which some women have found helpful.
Boots Macmillan Information Pharmacists have an understanding about cancer treatments and their side effects. To get their advice, you can book a virtual appointment online or visit one of their stores.
I hope this information helps and you find some relief for your sore joints.
Please feel free to get back in touch if you want more information or support.
kind regards,
Lindsey
