Hello.

I have had chest and rib adhearance of my skin to my left side after my radical mastectomy two years ago. My surgeon picked up on this last year. Since then it appears to be worse and now causes me difficulties with sleep and movement. I have a referral appointment to meet with.my surgeon but am quite anxious about this. Will he suggest more surgery? I have not been able to find anything on McMillan group chat about this or on Google.

Thanks in advance.

  • Hi FE1.

Thanks for getting in touch and welcome to our online community. My name is Sherrye and I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line.

I can see you’ve joined the breast cancer forum; I hope you are finding this supportive.

I’m sorry to hear that you’re having issues post your radical mastectomy two years ago.

At Macmillan Cancer Support we unfortunately don’t have access to any of the NHS systems or anyone’s medical records so we’re not best placed to say if more surgery will be suggested by your surgeon.

As I believe you’re still in your follow up period you will still have access to your clinical nurse specialist (CNS). As your key worker they will be able to closely support you with your upcoming appointment with the surgeon.

You may find it helpful to read our questions to ask your healthcare team webpage to help you prepare for your appointment. It may also be helpful to take someone with you for support.

I hope this information helps. Please feel free to get back in touch if you want more information or support.

    Best wishes,

    Sherrye H,

    Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
