Dull Pain in Breast

I have a dull pain in my right breast, it is intermittent and has been a few days now. I can’t feel any lumps , it does feel sore if I press on my breast. I have had a cyst removed from this breast over 10 years ago, I also had LCIS in my right breast which was removed  at the same time. Over the years I have had pains in my right breast and have been told it was from my milk ducts. I am 74 so do not get recalled for mammograms but have had one in 2022 which showed ‘Mammography showed bilateral benign microcalcifications’ and was assured that it was nothing to worry about. Do you think this is causing the discomfort.

thanks in advance

  • Hi Jd20.

Thanks for getting in touch and welcome to our online community. My name is Sherrye and I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line.

I’m sorry to hear you’ve been experiencing dull pains in your right breast intermittently.

At Macmillan Cancer Support with any new, changing, or worsening symptom we’d always recommend reporting this to your GP to be assessed, monitored, and treated as needed.

I understand that previously you’ve reported pains and been told it was from your milk ducts, it’s important is keep your GP up to date with any symptoms you’re experiencing.

You said that in 2022 following a mammogram it showed you had bilateral benign macrocalcifications. Breast calcifications are very common but don’t usually cause any pain.

At Macmillan Cancer Support we don’t have any access to any of the NHS systems or anyone’s medical records so I’m unable to say what the cause of your pain may be. The best placed person to assess this further would be your GP, they can then send you for further test’s if needed.

I hope this information helps. Please feel free to get back in touch if you want more information or support.

    Best wishes,

    Sherrye H,

    Cancer Information Nurse Specialist

  • Thanks for the reply Sherrye , I thought that would be the case, typically the pain has gone now but I remembered I got a leaflet about breast pain from the clinic so I will look at that and make an appointment, better to be safe than sorry. Thanks again.
