High Grade Dysplasia

Hi

i am trying to get a call back from doctors following colonoscopy  / CT scan at the beginning of December, but to no avail as yet

The only communication i have had is just before Christmas and receiving an appt to see the surgical team on 31st January

I have checked my NHS file and can see this letter has been updated on my file which was sent to my doctor, reads as follows

The  endoscopist  noted that  there  was  4cm  malignant  looking  sigmoid  polyp.  The histology further confirms high grade dysplasia in the lesion. Further to the endoscopy procedure,  we requested a CT TAP,  which is reassuring and that she does not have any distant metastasis

Further we have discussed this case in the Colorectal -MDT and the final out come is • one of the colorectal surgeons to review ME in one of his clinics and to further discuss MY matter in the complex polyp MDT and take matters on wards from there

I am going out of my mind not knowing whether i do or do not have cancer and what this means.  It seems such a long time to wait until end of Jan for an appt with the surgical team, all of the time i am worrying it is cancer and it is spreading

Thanks in advance

  • Hi Lunamom

Welcome to the Online Community here at Macmillan. My name is Vanessa and I am one of the information nurses.

Here at the Macmillan Support Line, we can give general advice and support. We are independent from the NHS and don’t have access to medical records so can’t give personalised information.  As nurses on the support line, we are also unable to make a diagnosis from results.

Your question is complicated, and we would suggest is best answered by those who have access to your clinical information. We would therefore advise that in the first instance if you haven’t already, you contact the Consultants secretary. The Consultants name should be on the letter. You can contact the main hospital phone number and ask to be put through to that Consultant’s secretary.

You can also ask that secretary if there is a colorectal nurse specialist who may be able to speak to you and explain what the letter means. Nurse specialists are senior nurses who work within each specialty within the hospital and can be a valuable source of information and support.

I can also give our support line a call. We often find we can explain our answers in a bit more detail over the phone, giving you the opportunity to ask more questions if needed. It can be very overwhelming not knowing how things might affect you moving forward. And although we can’t tell you exactly what to expect, we can help explain what usually happens for most people in a similar situation.

    Take care
