  • Hi Miss mole.

Thanks for getting in touch and welcome to our online community.

My name is Carole and I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line.

I see from your profile that you’ve just joined our melanoma forum and have been chatting to other members. I hope you’ll find it a good source of information, and support.

It’s important to avoid certain foods while having some treatments for cancer. You’ve mentioned Seville oranges, but you should not drink grapefruit juice or eat grapefruit while taking dabrafenib and trametinib. This is because these foods can affect CYP enzymes. The amount of these enzymes in the body can affect how well cancer drugs are broken down. This can affect how well the drugs work, as well as possible side effects.

Unfortunately, we are not able to say what type of oranges the mince pies or stollen may contain. We’d always recommend erring on the side of caution, even if it unfortunately means avoiding these products.

You could check with the manufacturer, or you could check with your treatment team. They should be able to advise.

I hope this is helpful. If you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to get back in touch.

    Sending my best wishes,

    Carole
