Hi

I think I over did it today by walking 20 mins (slowly) 7 days post op.

Thi s morning I showered and carefully dried my inny belly button and there was only a tiny bit of dried blood.

This evening it felt sore so I looked and it has bled and have dried blood visible.

Not sure what to do as I have been exposed to COVID and may test positive tomorrow tho was negative this eve

What wound you advise? Thq

  • Hi EmCee71,

Thanks for getting in touch, and welcome to our online community.

My name is Carole and I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line.

Sometimes it’s difficult to find the right balance between gentle exercise and rest after surgery, especially to begin with. You might have overdone things, but there could be other causes for your wound to bleed or become sore.

Any new side effect, soon after an operation needs to be reported to a healthcare professional straight away.

We’d recommend that you are assessed by your doctor or specialist nurse today.

You might have been given a leaflet when you left hospital with information about who to contact if you have any concerns post-op. If you weren’t given instructions about who to phone, or what to do, and can’t speak to a clinical member of your hospital team you should get in touch with your GP or NHS111.

I appreciate you are concerned about being exposed to covid, and that you may test positive. You should mention this to your hospital team or GP when you speak to them, and they’ll give you advice about what to do.

If you’d like to talk to one of the nurses on the Support Line, you are welcome to give us a call. The Macmillan Support Line offers practical, clinical, financial, and emotional support. You can call us free from landlines and from most mobile phone networks* on 0808 808 00 00, 7 days a week, 8am – 8pm.

And some people like to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, who might have had similar treatment. If you’d like to do this, our online ovarian cancer forum can be a good place to share experiences, ask questions and get support.

    I hope this is helpful.

    Sending my best wishes,

    Carole
