Hi, I'm wondering if you can help answer a question for me? I'm currently awaiting investigation for a large lump inside my vagina (Right along the inside entire vaginal wall, hard and covered with a watery cyst) and most recently post menopausal bleeding. My doctor has mentioned 'Urethral Diverticulum '  but when I read up on this it doesn't show a lump actually inside the vagina, just at the entrance or underneath the urethra, not broken through into the vagina. My question is can a Urethral Diverticulum, break through the vaginal wall and form the out pouch inside the vagina? I'm a bit confused. Thanks!

  • Good afternoon Jayda,

Thanks for getting in touch. My name’s Karla, I’m one of the cancer information nurses on the support line.

It’s great to see you’ve joined some groups and have been chatting with other members about what you’re going through. The support and understanding offered here is invaluable.

I appreciate how tough it’s been waiting for this appointment. You mentioned in another post about your mental health being screwed. Waiting for investigations and answers about what’s causing this lump is tough. And you’ve been coping with symptoms like bleeding and pain that can wear you down.

Any new, changing, or worsening symptoms and any difficulties with your mental health are always worth speaking to your GP about. Usually something can be done to help ease things.

Urethral diverticulum causes a vaginal mass in about half of the patients diagnosed with it. This could be what is causing your lump.

I’m glad you’ve got your consultant appointment on Friday. They’ll take a thorough history, perform a physical examination along with any necessary diagnostic tests to make a diagnosis.

Hopefully you’ll have some answers about what’s going on soon.

Sometimes it can help to talk things through with us. We often find that we can help people more by speaking with them on the phone. You can also get back in touch with us here.

Good luck for Friday, I’ll be thinking about you.

    Best wishes,

    Karla, Cancer Information Nurse Specialist

  • Thanks Karla,

Sorry only getting back to you! Yes this is a wonderful place and so helpful even though I don't have a diagnosis! I do feel bad about that, I don't want to use resources for ppl who actually have cancer! Anyhow, I was referred to a Gynae clinic so waiting on that. In the meantime the Gp thinks I might have BCC on my foot so that's going to be another process to go through! Is it true that can give you a few primaries? It doesn't rain but it pours lol! xx
