Hi Skippy1959
Thanks for getting in touch.
My name is Paula and I am one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line.
I am sorry to hear you’re experiencing weight loss due to waiting for prostate cancer test. I can imagine how worrying this must be for you and the increased anxiety it’s causing.
Many people feel anxious during this time and find it difficult to cope. It’s a natural response to stress, apprehension, and worry. It can be overwhelming and affect physical health and cause a range of symptoms, such as poor eating habits and weight loss.
If you haven’t already, we would suggest speaking to your GP about how you’re feeling. They are in an ideal position to talk through your fears and concerns and support you more. They may recommend a range of therapies that might help you to cope with your anxiety or prescribe medication for a short period of time.
Anxiety UK or MIND have some useful resources and strategies for managing anxiety also.
The GP can also prescribe nutritional supplements that may help. They are not a substitute for food but can help with your calorie intake. You may find our booklet the build-up diet helpful to look at. You could also ask the GP to be referred to a dietician as they can offer further advice.
You may find it helpful to talk to Prostate Cancer UK about your pending test. They can provide relevant information and support.
