Seven years ago whipple procedure for pancreatic cancer. Head of pancreas removed and gall bladder. Adjuvant chemotherapy for six months. Taking 2 creon 2500 after each meal. Up to recently no problems with digestion and normal bowel habits. I have had pretty much a cast iron digestive system, able to eat anything.

Over the last 3 months though mainly oily foods but sometimes dairy give me bad diarrhoea that can last for two days.. This has never affected me previously. I have tried increasing creon with an extra capsule but no difference. I can definitely see oil in my stools.

  • Dear Redjules,

Thank you for getting in touch and welcome to the Online Community. I’m Kerry one of the Cancer Information Nurses here on the Macmillan Support Line.

I’m sorry to hear of your previous diagnosis of Pancreatic cancer but good to hear that for 7 years you had been managing well with your diet and the Creon.

With the recent changes in your bowel habit after eating certain foods we suggest contacting as soon as possible your GP, Dietician or if you are still under the Endocrinologist or specialist nurse too.

On this platform we are unable to assess symptoms, we recommend any new, changing, or worsening symptoms should be assessed further.

Sometimes the dose of Creon may need adjusting even further or the brand of enzyme replacement medication may need changing if they aren’t helping ease your symptoms, your doctor can talk this through further with you.

If your symptoms persist or get worse in the meantime, please do reach out to your GP or 111 for further advice.

I hope you’re coping well apart from your bowel issues at present.

I just wanted to let you know that we have a Life after cancer forum where you can access peer support from other cancer survivors and discuss how you are coping.

I hope this information is helpful. If you have any further questions, please get in touch again. You can also speak with the Macmillan Support Line team of experts. Phone free on 0808 808 0000 (7 days a week, 8am-8pm) or send us an email or contact us through Webchat

    Best wishes
