I am struggling to find someone willing to swap my full sharps bin for an empty one and dispose of full one. Who knew it could be so difficult?? I have a PE and inject daily.  Hope you can advise

  • Dear

Thanks for getting in touch and welcome to the online community, I hope you find it supportive.  My name is Gillian and I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line.

I am sorry to read you are requiring daily injections for treatment of your PE and having difficulties in exchanging your used sharp bin.

We would firstly suggest contacting the department who has prescribed you the injections and see if they are able to exchange your sharps bin. Alternatively local authorities across the UK utilise a network of pharmacies, and occasionally GPs, to provide safe needle exchange services to the public. These services provide a safe disposal site to prevent the spread of infection or risk of injury.

I hope this information is helpful.  You can always call one of our nurses directly if you want to talk over your concerns or require any further support.

    Best wishes,

    Gillian,

    Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
