Hi, I have  had lumpectomy plus lymph node removal in Feb, finished chemo in July, had radiotherapy for 5 days in August and am still on phesgo injections and letrazole.  Have noticed a red, sore, inflamed area on the same breast with some pitting.  I am awaiting a callback from the breast care team but am freaking out!

  • Hi ,

My name is Amy and I am one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line. Thanks for getting in touch.

I’m sorry to hear about the red, inflamed, and pitted area on your breast. It’s only natural to feel anxious about any new or worsening symptoms, given your breast cancer diagnosis and treatment earlier this year.

It’s difficult for us on this platform to suggest what could be causing your symptoms as we can’t access NHS medical records.

Sometimes, surgery and/or radiotherapy can cause long term changes to the breast that may start many months or even years after completing treatment.

You have done the right thing in contacting your breast care team – and hopefully you don’t wait too long for a response.

We often find we can help more by exploring these questions over the phone. If this is something you think would help, then please don’t hesitate to get in touch via our support line on 0808 808 0000. We are available 7 days a week, 8am-8pm.

    I hope this helps.

    Best wishes,

Amy C, Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
