Hi,I had a WLE at Christie’s yesterday, was supposed to be under GA but it was done under LA.I’ve got 2 infected Lymph nodes but was told they would be checked under ultrasound, I’m just so worried that they’ve been left in when they should of been removed under GA.

  • Hi Steve1839,

Thanks for getting in touch with our online community. My name is Helen and I’m one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists.

I see you have joined our melanoma forum; I hope you are finding it helpful sharing your experiences with others.

I’m sorry to hear that your wide local excision (WLE) didn’t go as you expected yesterday. It’s understandable that you feel worried the infected lymph nodes weren’t removed.

At Macmillan Cancer Support we don’t have access to any of the NHS systems or anyone’s medical records, so it would be difficult to say why the planned procedure didn’t go ahead.

Having a chat with your consultant or clinical nurse specialist will help you understand why this happened.

If you don’t have a nurse, or contact details for them, the best way forward would be to call your specialist's secretary and ask to speak with someone from the team. They can help you understand why there was a change of plan to be reassured that you received the correct level of care.

This can be done by calling the main hospital number and asking to be put through to the secretary.

    I hope this helps.

    Best wishes,

    Helen K,

    Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
