My spouse attended a&e some weeks ago and has internal bleeding for which emergency CT scan is required - how long is the waiting time considering I believe standard waiting time is 12 weeks and the wait time elapsed already is 4 weeks?

Hi qwert ,
Welcome to our online community and thanks for posting your question. My name is Amy and I am one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line.
I’m sorry to hear your spouse has internal bleeding and still waiting for a CT scan. Are they still in hospital? Or having any symptoms?
A non-urgent referral is usually anything up to 18 weeks, urgent up to 2 weeks and emergency should be as soon as possible (same day or possibly next day).
Without more details it’s difficult to say for sure, but we would expect suspected internal bleeding to be treated as an emergency.
I would encourage you to get back in touch with the GP/ consultant and/or specialist nurse – depending on who is involved in their care so far.
If you would like to chat through this in more detail, then please don’t hesitate to give our support line a call. You can also reply with more details here on our Ask a Nurse forum or privately via secure email.
I hope this helps.
Best wishes,
Amy C, Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
