Looking for advice. Trying to wean myself off dihydacodeine. Know I can have 8 paracetamol a day but is there anything else I can have? Not sure if ibuprofen is suitable.
Thanks

Hi Princess Xena
Welcome to the Online Community here at Macmillan. I hope you find it a helpful place to access support and ask questions. My name is Vanessa, and I am one of the cancer information nurses here at the Macmillan Cancer Support Line.
I can see that you are a member of our Online Community. I hope you are finding it an informative and supportive place.
Here at the Macmillan Support Line, we can give general advice and support. We are independent from the NHS and don’t have access to medical records so can’t give personalized information.
There are various ways a hysterectomy can be undertaken and this will have an impact on the level of pain you experience. As you know there are a range of pain killers and non-drug treatments which can be used but to manage pain effectively you need to be assessed by either your GP or specialist nurse.
This is important as it allows the professional to check if there are any issues which may be increasing or prolonging your pain. They can also consider if any other medical conditions you may have mean that certain pain killers should be avoided.
As such we would recommend that you contact your GP or specialist nurse for further more specific advice.
I hope you find this information helpful. You can also always call one of our nurses directly if you want to talk over your concerns or require any further support.
Take care
Vanessa G, Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
