Hi Carpediem23,
Thank you for contacting Macmillan Cancer Support. My name is David, one of the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on the Macmillan Support Line.
I am glad to hear you have completed your EC and commenced your Paclitaxel. Please note both these regimes can lower your blood levels.
Herbal supplements like Floradix are commonly used as alternative therapies. It is important to note that alternative therapies are different to complimentary therapies.
However, many doctors advise that herbal remedies should be avoided for a few weeks before and after cancer treatment.
We strongly recommend that you discuss this further with your healthcare team and Oncology Pharmacist first before taking any supplements.
They will check the ingredients to make sure there is no dangerous drug interactions with any of your prescribed cancer treatment and medication.
Chemotherapy also affects the blood and reduce the number of red blood cells in your system. When your red cells are low this is called anaemia and you may require a blood transfusion.
During your chemotherapy your bloods will be closes monitored to make sure your body is handling the treatment and to make sure it is safe to continue.
We look forward to you completing your chemotherapy treatment successfully.
If there is anything else we can help you with please feel free to get back in touch.
Best wishes
David,
Cancer Information Nurse Specialist
